The Iranian Red Crescent Society's president had earlier told IRNA that rescue and search crews had located Raisi's downed helicopter. As Raisi, Amir Abdollahian, and other top officials were returning from an event near Iran's border with Azerbaijan, their aircraft crashed in a mountainous region of northwest Iran.

Ahmad Vahidi, Iran's interior minister, confirmed the "hard landing" of the president on Sunday.
